Massive 20cm long XXL Firestarter will produce fiery sparks straight from hell's mansion wherever you dare to strike it. The Ferro Rod XXL is a reliable and very, very long lasting firestarter for all use. Comes with a leather holster where both the striker and the ferro rod packs nicely and including metal D-loop which you can use to hang it onto your belt or backpack.

Kootamo XXL Ferro Rod is a mix of proper hardness and softer mischmetal, which means it will last longer and produces very hefty amount of 3000°C sparks on command in any weather. Very reliable fire starter in any situation. All of this is packed in a 100% leather holster with metal D-loop - the striker has a separate pouch on the backside of the holster and both the ferro rod and striker have paracord pulls for easy grip and visibility.

The striker itself is actually a small multitool, meaning you can use it for opening bottle caps, screw some hex bolts, measure something small with it's mm gauge and look distances on the map as there is a 1:100.000 scale measure (5km) on the reverse side, scrape some birch bark or other flammable tinder and, of course, use it to strike some massive sparks from the ferro rod. The ferrocerium rod also works with knives with 90° spine and other sharp items which are harder than the material.

Using the firestarter is easy and safe, there are couple of things to keep in mind though: hot sparks do not automatically mean fire, you will not get anything just by spraying sparks here and there. Getting fire requires proper preparation, that is, you need to prepare some highly flammable material which will catch fire from very small sparks, such as very thin birch or similar tinder, the fluffy type. This kind of prepared tinder will catch spark with minimal effort. Using: guide your spark shower to your selected fine tinder, when lit, take something else and feed the fire to your liking.

Kootamo XXL Ferro Rod is quite long and thick unlike other alternatives available on the market - making fire with long ferro rod is easier as you can direct and press the rod for better guiding of sparks to desired spot. Just plant the other end of the rod on the ground or wherever you have the tinder, keep small pressure so the ferro rod stays in place and guide the sparks exactly where you need to. This method does not work well with shorter firestarters! In addition, longer rod gives much more massive sparks than the smaller ones you are used to. The 8" Ferro Rod XXL also lasts a very long time, with over 20.000 strikes possible from our Kootamo XXL. So it's very long lasting and reliable for any situation.

Pro tip: if you want to keep your ferro rod in good shape and with no need for maintenance, just use the included striker and hear our message: if using with knives with 90 degree spine, you can expect to get some ridges and uneven surface for sure. If you want to keep your ferro rod in good shape and avoid ridges, just use the striker which has been included with the kit. Also, the included striker will produce more sparks than the spine of your knife. Trust us. And, if you just happened to make your ferro rod look like it has ridges and uneven surface, then fear not! All you need is just some sandpaper and you can level it out. But be prepared, sanding the rod will make some sparks.
