Product info

Helikon-Tex Chicom Chest Rig, is a new version of the iconic combat equipment, which dates back to the 40s, but became very popular during the Vietnam War due to its usability. The Chicom chest rig enables you to carry basic items easily and lightly. Due to its size and design, Chicom is especially designed for tight spaces, such as urban environments. After attaching the accessories, the use of the chest rig becomes even more versatile. Chicom also has the option of attaching to a plate carrier.

Chicom chest rig will also do a great job during tactical exercises and shooting training. Chicom has three pockets on the front with velcro flaps. The Velcro flaps are removable and can be replaced with the supplied pullers. The front pockets are sized so that AK/AR magazines can fit in them. This is the basic version, that can be upgraded in many ways. On both sides, there are molle attachment points, where you can attach more bags and other molle-compatible stuff. You can increase the number of ammunition pockets to five if you wish, and you can attach a small first aid kit to the bottom of the chest rig. There is one large pocket inside the bag, where you can store a map or other necessary documents.

Chicom's history begins in communist China in the 1940s, when the Chinese army introduced pouches made of tarpaulin fabric, which were worn on suspenders at chest height, rather than in pouches placed on the waist belt. This simple solution was economical and the carrying feeling was comfortable for the soldiers.

Over the years, several versions of Chicom have been made, for different ammunition and weapons. The Chicom-style carrier made its final breakthrough in the Western world, when the US forces took combat equipment from their enemies in the Vietnam war. Soon after this, Chicom-style carriers were found on SOG and Navy Seals fighters. After 2000, Chicom became popular again due to the participation of the US army in the Afghanistan conflict.
